Googtorola: A Done Deal

I blogged about the Googtorola deal last August 2011, and I followed it up with a post when the US DOJ and the EU Council gave their nod last February.

Today Google CEO Larry Page confirmed that the Googtorola deal is closed. Page also announced via Google’s Official Blog that Sanjay Jha has stepped down as CEO and Google’s President of the Americas Region, Dennis Woodside takes over as new CEO of Motorola Mobility.

Quoting the blog post:

It’s why I’m excited to announce today that our Motorola Mobility deal has closed. Motorola is a great American tech company that has driven the mobile revolution, with a track record of over 80 years of innovation, including the creation of the first cell phone. We all remember Motorola’s StarTAC, which at the time seemed tiny and showed the real potential of these devices. And as a company who made a big, early bet on Android, Motorola has become an incredibly valuable partner to Google.

  1. My experience with Motorola before Android isn’t very good… Their phones are unique in design, but the software was crap… I hope that has changed now…
