HP7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 at SM MOA IMAX Review

We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 at the IMAX Theater at SM Mall of Asia last Saturday.

We enjoyed the movie and I am happy to write my own review so in tradition of my six new Philippine money, my six foursquare cheats, my six tagalog love quotes and my free six video posts, here are some six comments and review of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 movie.

1. Special Effects. The movie has great special effects and this I guess this was amplified by 3D and IMAX experience. I personally like the Gringrotts train scene, the Hogwarts statues come alive scene, the magical fortification of Hogwarts, the defeat of Bellatrix and Tom Riddle effects and of course Nagini munching on Snivellus 🙂 . I highly recommend viewers to watch this movie in 3D.

2. Captured Emotions. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 movie have captured the high emotions of the book and the story. Yes, HP7 is not all fun but I am glad that the HP7 part 2 of the movie focused on many emotions of the movie and hopefully have successfully conveyed them to the viewers.

3. SM IMAX Movie Reservations. The whole July 16 and 17 (Saturday and Sunday) were already sold out when we are claiming our tickets. We are happy that we got our tickets in advance via calling the SM Cinema Hotline and paying for it in the SM Mall near our home. This is really convenient and hassle free and I believe SM IMAX has other movie reservation system, which I will post in my blog in the future.

4. Other SM IMAX perks. SM Mall also has some booth/showing area that showcased some costumes worn by Harry Potter characters, movie posters of previous Harry Potter films and other Harry Potter stuff. This attraction definitely is a plus (its Kodakan time :p ) for Harry Potter fans especially kids and kids at heart 🙂

On the other side of the review:
5. Less Fight Scenes. I was expecting more fight scenes but was a little bit disappointed (but this is fine I guess). I recall the previous HP movies wherein there was a great fight scene at the Ministry of Magic and I was expecting some epic fight scenes in this HP (was seriously expecting to see that the Centaurs and the house elves led by Kreacher join in the fracas at the last part).

6. “Bitin” – Too Short. I understand that the movie creators cannot possibly put all details of the book into 2-part movie. I also know this is part 2 already but honestly we (and I guess a lot of viewers) are bitin. I checked with IMDB that the HP7 Part 2 is around 2 hours and 10 minutes (while the part 1 was almost 2 hours and a half) and I don’t know if the creators can cram some parts and add more juicy bits of the book and extend some 10 to 20 minutes of Harry Potter excitement and fun!

Overall it’s a great movie and we highly recommend that you watch too 🙂

I heard that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 already made some $476M during its screening which is really cool! I believe some awards will be coming in and movie box office records will be broken… soon.

That’s all for now! Hope you find my Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 review interesting.

As a follow post for my In Love and War Album (see my other posts on Higante, Wasak Waltz and Dreamdate), I am posting the lyrics of Bus Stop, the 3rd track from the In Love and War CD by Ely Buendia and Francis Magalona.

Bus Stop

Bus stop, wet day, she’s there, I say
Please share my umbrella
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
Under my umbrella

All that summer we enjoyed it
Wind and rain and shine
That umbrella we employed it
By August, she was mine

Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop
Sometimes she’d shopped and she would show me what she bought
Other people stared as if we were both quite insane
Someday my name and hers are going to be the same

That’s the way the whole thing started
Silly but it’s true
Thinkin’ of a sweet romance
Beginning in a queue

Came the sun the ice was melting
No more sheltering now
Nice to think that that umbrella
Led me to a vow

Every morning I would see her waiting at the stop
Sometimes she’d shopped and she would show me what she’d bought
Other people stared as if we were both quite insane
Someday my name and hers are going to be the same

Bus stop, wet day, she’s there, I say
Please share my umbrella
Bus stop, bus goes, she stays, love grows
Under my umbrella

All that summer we enjoyed it
Wind and rain and shine
That umbrella we employed it
By August, she was mine

Hope you liked my In Love and War Bus Stop post! I’m thinking on doing either Hands On or Bum Ticker next 🙂

In Love and War: Dreamdate Lyrics

As a follow-up post to the Higante and Wasak Waltz Lyrics posts, I am featuring another song from the In Love and War Album of Ely Buendia and Francis M. This one reminds me of the old lyrics of eheads that have some sort of double meaning and it usually gets them into trouble especially the conservatives (remember Alapaap and the “drug” issue?). Definitely a cool and fun song here is track 5: Dreamdate Lyrics

Dreamdate
(Ely Buendia and Diane Ventura)

Wag kang padalos dalos
At ako’y nababastos
Respetuhin mo naman ako
Isa akong tao tulad mo
Pagmamahal ko ay libre
Di ako nabibili

Ely Buendia – Vocals/Piano
Yan Yuzon – Guitars
Dok Sergio – Bass
Wendell Garcia – Drums
Jerome Velasco – Guitars

The song was produced by Ely Buendia and Angee Rozul, and was recorded and mixed by Angee Rozul at Tracks Studio.

In Love and War: Wasak Waltz Lyrics

I am posting the lyrics of one of my favorite tracks from the In Love and War Album by Ely Buendia and Francis Magalona. This is track 8: Wasak Waltz and this song reminds me of the good old eheads days with its pace, melody and familiar lyrics. Goosebumps 🙂

Wasak Waltz

Eto na naman
Panahon ng tag-ulan
Di maiiwasan sa buhay nino man
Tulad mo rin ako
Isang pulo sa dagat
Na walang hanggan
Naghahanap ng masisilungan

Sa dinami-dami ng lugar
Ay dito pa nagkita
Gaano nga ba katagal
Ako’y tumatanda na

Pagkakataong tulad nito
Di dapat pinapalampas
Sabay nating harapin
Ang pag-asa ng bukas

Itaas ang kamay
At iwagayway
Masarap mabuhay
Itaob na ang tagay
Saan ka man pumunta
Meron man o wala
Diyan nagsisimula
Ang wasak na pagsasamahan

Pagkakataong tulad nito
Di dapat pinapalampas
Sa sakit na dinadala
Isa lang ang ating lunas

Itaas ang kamay
At iwagayway
Masarap mabuhay
Itaob na ang tagay
Saan ka man pumunta
Meron man o wala
Diyan nagsisimula
Ang wasak na pagsasamahan

Ely Buendia – Vocals/Keyboard/Percussion/Guitar
Francis M – Vocals
Sancho – Acoustic Guitar
Dok Sergio – Bass
Wendell Garcia – Drums
Jerome Velasco – Guitar
Andi Trinidad – Backing Vocal
Anna Rubio – Backing Vocal

The song was produced by Ely Buendia, Robert Javier and Angee Rozul, and was recorded at Tracks Studio, Pasig City. Wasak Waltz track was recorded, mixed and mastered by Angee Rozul.

In Love and War: Higante Lyrics

As part of my In Love and War Album review, I am posting the lyrics of one of my favorite tracks in the album: Higante by Francis Magalona and Ely Buendia.

Higante (feat. Hardware Syndrome)

Narito palagi
Di nawawala
Ang bendisyon ng pari
Laging nasa kanya
Sintaas ng Ulap
Ang kanyang tindig
Nakaupo sa palad
Ang buong daigdig

Ah siya ay dambuhala
Siya’y nakakalula
Dadalhin ka nya
Sa sukdulan

Tumingala sa langit
Kung nais kong makita
Ang higanteng pangit
Tila naninindak
Sa nuo nakasipat
Ang aking saltik
Sa lakas ng tira
Sa lupa sya humalik

Ah siya ay dambuhala
Siya’y nakakalula
Dadalhin ka nya
Sa sukdulan

Maliliit na tao ay walang kalaban laban

Sino ka makaasta
Isa kang kontrabida di ba
Maliliit na tulad namin
Sinasaktan mo kinakain
Magtago ka na dambuhala
Kakampi namin si Bathala
Kung ayaw mo na maniwala
Sa bato mapipinsala

Meet the cool dudes behind the Higante song:
Francis M – Vocals
Ely Buendia – Vocals/Keyboard
Carlo Sison – Guitar
Francis Villanueva – Bass
Otep Concepcion – Drums
Noel Mendez – Guitar
Jerome Velasco – Guitar
Robert Javier – Percussion

Watch out for more lyrics and review post for the In Love and War CD.

In Love and War Album

At last, Raven and I finally got our In Love and War Album. In Love and War is of course the CD Album of Francis Magalona and Ely Buendia.

The In Love and War CD has 10 tracks. It features some great collab works with the good bands of today like Hardware Syndrome, Pupil, Gloc 9 and Turbogroth, Hilera and Brigada, The Purplechickens and Radha.

Complete In Love and War Album Track List

Higante is of course the early favorite as this track have been teasingly aired since 2009. And as one commenter from my previous In Love and War blog post, it really brings goose bumps :). The 8th track Wasak Waltz is my next favorite since I love the familiar melody and cool lyrics too (reminded me of some old eheads songs 🙂 ) and definitely this one will be on the fav playlist. The Dreamdate (5th track) is a good and catchy one too. And Raven and I seems to have heard the Bus Stop (3rd track) somewhere else (don’t know if they have played it in the radio also).

The Album is a good one and I will do some follow up post here in my blog. When? Soon…

In Love and War CD Album costs 305 pesos. Grab your copy from your favorite music store… now.

TriNoma Cinema and Watchmen

After having dinner with some friends and buying some things at TriNoma, Raven and I decided to take a break and watch a movie yesterday. We picked Watchmen since it’s related to one of her projects at work.

Below is the trailer video courtesy of youtube:

Watchmen is not your usual superhero in a costume flick. Setting is based on an alternate history of United States in the middle of the Cold War with the Russians. I won’t give a full review here, but I rate it as a 3 out of 5. Some things worth mentioning:

  • the movie can be dragging, maybe because of the narration and too much dialog
  • Rorschach (pronounced as Roar-shak) is an interesting character. I almost forgot the origin of his name (Rorschach Cards/inkblot text used in psychology, it was some sort of an extra project for me in college)
  • I think the sexy scenes (in their aircraft) can be omitted 🙂

Visit the official movie site here

For TriNoma Cinema 2, I rate it: 2 out of 5. I think the cinema is quite new, but we are just wondering why the chairs are kind of squeaky already.

Kopi Tiam North Park Review

To celebrate New Year and Baroye’s birthday, we had lunch at North Park Kopi Tiam in Horseshoe Village, Quezon City. We had our favorite Pinsec Frito as appetizer and then we had Binondo Mami soup. We also ordered their specialties: Lechon Macau, Honey Glazed Pork Ribs, and Bacon Wrapped Kani and was greatly satisfied with the food. We also tried their California Maki, but I think Japanese dishes are not their specialty. For dessert, Ujinn picked the Warm Choco Tablea (this is the winner 🙂 ) and Magne tried the Capuccino Mousse.

Warm Choco Tablea and Capuccino Mousse

According to Wikipedia, “Kopi Tiam” is a traditional breakfast and coffee shop found in Singapore and Malaysia. Kopi Tiam in the Philippines offer’s North Park’s familiar dishes. North Park site describes it the place “as a cozy and sophisticated ambiance with quiet nooks for intimate conversations, it’s a new place for you and your date to explore and taste” and Raven and I definitely agree to this description

When we left the place we were all full and stuffed 🙂 and everybody (including my mom) is happy. Whenever you’re in the Santolan/Horse Shoe Village area in Quezon City  you should give this place a try.

Happy New Year y’all!

Old Spaghetti House Review

As I mentioned in the About page, I will try to post some food/resto reviews so here it goes.

I accompanied Maui in her window shopping spree last weekend :-). Before we do the actual “gruelling” task of shopping, I need to make sure I have enough energy. That means FOOD. We want to have Razon’s Halu-halo since its one of our favorite in Robinson’s Galleria foodcourt, but decided that we will have it later after the shopping. We decided to try Old Spaghetti House (I’ve never been inside this restaurant although I remember they have one branch in Libis). I ordered Gambasetti, she ordered the pasta meal with a long filename. It was Golden Crusted Chicken Ham and Cheese with Angel Hair Pomodoro (told you it was long). I liked the Gambasetti 🙂 As the name implies its a mix of Gambas (shrimps) and spaghetti. It’s a little bit spicy for me but combined with the pasta meal, we really enjoyed our treat :-). The price is also OK, not to pricey for a pasta resto. We’ll definitely try other dishes there some other time.

Until next chowtime :@)!
