Skype Chat Invite Leads to Pr0n Site

Skype is a normal thing for me. It keeps me connected to my colleagues and friends who, for one reason or another, do not have Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger or ICQ (more common chat applications for me)

But interesting scenarios can also happen with Skype.
Take this example:
An unknown girl user pops a message to me

Her photo in the profile is not so bad (it depends on each individual’s taste I guess) and may even be considered by many as “seductive”.

Remember what our parents told us when we were kids? “Never talk to strangers!”. But hey I say to myself I’m a big boy now and I can handle myself. (In a more serious tone: I’m overexposed to these kinds of stuffs given the industry that I’m into (see my about page), so do not worry! But a small warning: Kids: Do not try this at home).

I gamely reply some 1 or 2-liners. “What?” or “Who you?”

She replies with some more cheesy or seductive lines like: “I’m so lonely!” or “I want to meet some people“.

Jackpot? Well not quite.

I reply some classic 1-liner. “OK” or “Yes”

She invites me to do some dirty stuff. Read on…

The real mature instincts in me takes over. NO outright clicks. Did my quickie research and Bingo!!! Confirmed link is a p0rn/pr0n site. Pr0n sites do more damage than good. Did the right thing:

Block this person from contacting me again 🙂 Click OK button.

End of Story.

My guess: Most probably this chatter is a bot and it sends out advertisements for their adult site. I did the common 1 or 2-word replies so that the bot will likely respond positively (and then I have a story to post here 🙂 ).

Moral lesson of the story:

1. Be Smart! Stay safe online!

2. Parents, this may happen to your kids. So spend some quality online time with them (This can happen in YM, AOL and ICQ too)

I hope this makes sense.

Hope you always have a safe online experience.

P.S. Don’t ask me to give out the pr0n site link. I won’t give in 🙂

If you have same experiences online, kindly drop me some comments.

Pangandaman-Dela Paz Golf Brawl Update

Valley Golf and Country Club officials have released their findings and recommendations on this golf brawling incident. They expelled Delfin dela Paz for “disorderly conduct in instigating the brawl”. Bambee and Lino, since they are dependents of the expelled member were prohibited from the golf course. Secretary Nasser Pangandaman Sr. was suspended for two years, while his sons Masiu Town Mayor Nasser Jr. and Hussein were “banned for life” from the golf club’s premises. For the complete details of this read article.

I just hope and pray that the officials of the posh Antipolo golf club acted fairly and is 100% based on real accounts of eyewitnesses. I will let proper courts settle this issue.

Personally, I don’t know both camps. I also don’t play golf (I’m a poor boy, no money for golf) so I should stay away from this issue. But what the heck, this site happens to be my blog and one of the little privileges I’ve got here is to have my own online political rant space. So my comment:

The camp of the Agrarian Reform Secretary is saying that they are victims of trial by publicity. Quoting the DAR Secretary in article.

He said that Bambee’s e-mail, widely used in newspaper accounts without the Pangandaman comment, had hurt the family.

C’mon Mr. Secretary, that’s such a lamer (and “such a loser yaya”) statement and excuse. You and your camp can do better than that 🙂 like what… errrr… let me see… hire some PR guys (or an army of bloggers in disguise) to do your counter-trial by publicity. Or was the “Tides of Darkness” brought by the wrath of the bloggers too much “Power Overwhelming” for you and your minions?

To the board of directors of the golf club, maybe you can revisit your guidelines on hazardous items that cannot be brought to the golf club. Knives and baseball bats should be banned I agree, and firearms too. Firearms are dangerous too they can also kill you know.

I wish my comments above are not that malicious for me to get a libel charge. In the event that you find this post libelous, drop me a note in the contact page . I’m not a lawyer but please give me some heads up so that I can consult some fellow bloggers who knows much about libel and law (will get permission from them if I can post their links here) or if they are not available I can consult my other friends. Or if you have other opinions (whether assenting or dissenting or even non-sense) or you cannot understand what “tides of darkness”, “power overwhelming” and “you’re such a loser yaya” means, drop me some comments here, I’m very open to suggestions and criticisms.

Ely, Marcus, Raimund and Buddy took turns in answering questions from the media and they reiterated that this 2nd Reunion concert will be totally different (and not just a continuation of the August 30, 2008 concert). Ely confirmed that his health is in good condition. The band members estimated that they will be playing around 20+ songs.

Diane Ventura (Ely Buendia’s manager) had a phone interview with News on Q (QTV) and confirmed the Eheads Reunion Part 2 concert on March 7. She said Ely was given official go signal by his doctors.

Quoting GMANews.TV report:

“To the fans, I know I’m speaking for the whole band when I say that they’re looking forward to seeing you on March 7. See you there,” Ventura said in a phone interview aired on “News on Q.”

Ventura said the concert would be held to give Eraserheads fans closure.

I’m so excited!!!

Early this morning I was busy posting about the Eheads Reunion Concert DVD and this news seems to be information overload. And now…

The Eraserheads Reunion Concert Part 2 is now a reality special thanks to MTV and Smart. Dubbed as the “Final Set” it is slated on March 7, 2009. Venue is still in the works. Philstar’s Supreme posted this:

It’s confirmed. The Eraserheads concert “The Final Set” is set.

Save the date: March 7, 2009. The concert is produced by MTV and Smart with the venue yet to be announced.

For now, it’s a tossup between The Fort and SM Mall of Asia grounds.

They’re just about to sign the contract and will have their press conference on January 19.

For the part 2 tickets, sorry no info yet. I’ll post details here as soon as I have them. For now, I’ll settle with playing the Eheads Reunion CD over and over again 🙂

Again special thanks to Marhgil Macuha for the buzz.

Eraserheads Reunion Concert DVD to be released January 31

Wow! The Eraserheads Reunion Concert DVD will be out on January 31, 2009.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment Philippines announced this on their website:

It shall go down local music history as that singular moment where four estranged band members – Ely Buendia, Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro – came together for one spectacular reunion – 08.30.08. One band. One great show. One night only.

The historic performance of the country’s biggest band in the 90s that drew in more than 50,000 people at The Fort Bonifacio Open Field on Aug. 30, 2008, will be immortalized in one DVD – plus bonus features of behind-the-scene footages, rehearsals, etc.

I hope it will include the early morning rehearsals (Sembreak) as well as the funny “Group Hug” cheers of the crowd.

I will definitely grab this DVD for my viewing pleasure and collection and will blog it FTW! Remember my Eheads Reunion Concert CD post?

And my million peso question of the day: Will there be an Eraserheads Reunion Concert Part 2 in 2009???

Special thanks to Marhgil and Azrael for the buzz.

Unleaded Gasoline Lowest Price?

I took this picture from a gasoline station in San Juan, Manila, Philippines last Monday night:

gasoline price taken on 01.05.2009

I have filled up my tank twice already (one before the New Year and one last Monday night) and its really PHP 30.10, this is the lowest price I can remember in the last 12 months. I’m posting this since I’m very curious on how the other stations (same oil company) offer the same unleaded gasoline at PHP 33.07 and PHP 32.97. I asked the gasoline boy on why their price is lower than the others he says he doesn’t know. Btw, forget about the price of the premium gas, I think there’s something wrong with the LED system.

If you:

  • are interested to know where exactly is this gasoline station (hey this is good savings if you’re in the vicinity) or
  • know the reason for the non-standard pricing of this oil company or
  • have any violent comment/reaction

Fake Linkedin Sites Redirects to Virus

Update 2010.09.30
There is a new Linkedin Spam and Linkedin Malware (or Linkedin Virus if you would prefer to search it this way) making rounds since Monday 9/27, so I advise readers of this blog to be careful on opening suspicious Linkedin Mail Invites. This incident is related to the notorious Zbot/Zeus Malware and Trend Micro detects the samples as a TROJ_ZBOT variants. The related spam messages and website links are also blocked via Trend Micro Smart Protection Network (which is good news to TM users 🙂 ).
Read Cisco Blog here for more info.

Original article below was info from January 2009 (Fake Linkedin Sites of Beyonce and other high profile stars), and is not directly related to this Linkedin Virus 2010 incident.

TrendLabs reports that there are several fake Linkedin sites out there that hosts redirects to malicious content (read: malware). The fake Linkedin sites poses as the profiles of several well-known (and if I may add “hottie”) celebrities like Beyonce Knowles, Kirsten Dunst, Christina Ricci, Salma Hayek, Kate Hudson and Victoria Beckham. Unknown computer users are then tricked on visiting these bogus sites and will lead to malware infection of their workstations.

Complete details can be found here

Linkedin is a popular social networking site for professionals. Their site describes them as an online network of more than 30 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 150 industries. I myself have a Linkedin account that I use to get in touch with friends, colleagues and industry contacts. Given their and their sites popularity it’s logical that bad guys use them as infection vectors (social engineering technique).

I heard that there were similar incidents with Friendster and Facebook during the vacation. Let me do some research and post anything I can find here.

The files downloaded from the malicious fake Linkedin profiles are detected by Trend Micro as TROJ_DLOAD.DL which in turn will download some variant of the infamous fake antivirus program (FakeAV).

So guys next time you see a Beyonce or Kristen Dunst profile (Linkedin or not) and it has links to their supposedly nude videos, think twice or thrice before clicking it.

Blog Q & A

A “Welcome-Back-to-Office” greetings to you and to all the office peons out there. I got some interesting posts from our yahoo groups mailing-list and a bright idea come to my mind 😮 why not blog about it. The original discussion is in Filipino-English and I’ll do some translation/edit to make it menardconnect-friendly.

A friend queried some interesting QQ about blogs and the blogging experience. Questions like the following popped up:
1. Could someone enlighten him on this blog thing?
2. Do people really read those blogs?
He then relates his not-so-good experience on browsing one blog. On how he was so bored reading the diary stuffs. He said the experience did not add anything to his wisdom, but instead (as DotA and WoW players will put it), he even incurred some penalty on his INT attribute.

He also mentioned how he finds 2 batchmates’ blog good and explained that he’s really pissed off by the personal diary stuffs.

I was amazed that I’m now into some sort of blogging evangelism.

Read my the “prettified” reply below:

1. Could someone enlighten a mo**n like him on this blog thing?

What is a blog?
wikipedia definition:
A blog (a contraction of the term “Web log”) is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.

“Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog definition:
A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.

In simple terms, a blog is a web site, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what’s new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not.

My say? describes it well, it can be a diary, a rant/rave site, a political movement site, an e-store to sell your stuffs… anything goes…”There are no real rules“. I’ll put it in filipino to express myself better: Blog is “a website tungkol sa mga kanya-kanyang trip“. That’s the menardconnect definition.

2. Do people really read those blogs?
Yes they do. I read blogs and I think some of our mascian batchmates do (some of them are bloggers). My feedburner subscriber count is twelve, so minus me and Raven (I think she’s a fan of my blog) that means that there are ten other souls reading my blog. Yehey!!!

3. My comment on his boring experience on reading one boring blog. I highlighted menardconnect definition: “kanya-kanyang trip lang yan” 🙂 He can leave his nasty comment on the website he’s been reading and let the owner approve or reject the comment.

4. On “He got good reads from Tonyo’s when he visited it once.”
-That’s the reason why is for blog awards 🙂 FTW!

5. On “He also browsed Bro. Utoy‘s site. and find it fine (for his sophisticated taste)
-Bro. Utoy is a good writer. I’m proud of knowing him personally and putting him on my blogroll. Naks!

I invited him to visit my newbie blogsite and leave some comments there.

Btw, he’s my blog subscriber now, hehehe 🙂

I hope he create his own blog and I’ll be more than happy to put his blog to my blogroll.

Kopi Tiam North Park Review

To celebrate New Year and Baroye’s birthday, we had lunch at North Park Kopi Tiam in Horseshoe Village, Quezon City. We had our favorite Pinsec Frito as appetizer and then we had Binondo Mami soup. We also ordered their specialties: Lechon Macau, Honey Glazed Pork Ribs, and Bacon Wrapped Kani and was greatly satisfied with the food. We also tried their California Maki, but I think Japanese dishes are not their specialty. For dessert, Ujinn picked the Warm Choco Tablea (this is the winner 🙂 ) and Magne tried the Capuccino Mousse.

Warm Choco Tablea and Capuccino Mousse
Warm Choco Tablea and Capuccino Mousse

According to Wikipedia, “Kopi Tiam” is a traditional breakfast and coffee shop found in Singapore and Malaysia. Kopi Tiam in the Philippines offer’s North Park’s familiar dishes. North Park site describes it the place “as a cozy and sophisticated ambiance with quiet nooks for intimate conversations, it’s a new place for you and your date to explore and taste” and Raven and I definitely agree to this description

When we left the place we were all full and stuffed 🙂 and everybody (including my mom) is happy. Whenever you’re in the Santolan/Horse Shoe Village area in Quezon City  you should give this place a try.

Happy New Year y’all!
