SMS SCAM ALERT: Sam Mendoza, the new Marie Velasco
Note: This post is an awareness campaign to all readers of this blog. Beware! There is a recycled SMS spam and website spam making rounds that in the Philippines patterned after Marie Velasco, Anna Marie Velasco, Marie Bacolod scams. New name of the girl in the SMS scam and website scam is Sam Mendoza so I will tag this as the Sam Mendoza SMS SCAM.
I got a comment from a reader (Azeto) of my SMS Scam: Marie Velasco post telling me that they received another set of sms messages that may be related to this scam. To the benefit of the new readers this Marie Velasco SMS Scam was making rounds in the Philippines SMS since 2009. The “poor girl” is asking a would-be victim to send her some money (or electronic cellphone load) so that she can go to Manila and work. In exchange for the money, the “poor girl” who do “anything”. I leave it to your imagination on what will be the boundaries of that “anything” since the scammers seems to target the male population. I started blogging about it around August 2009, when my friends IRL and I got some random sms messages. I even got some flame comments before related to this blog posts. Read my previous posts
Going back to the new scam, I got curious so I investigated further. And wow! I will quote the site:
I’m just a simple lady… with simple dream. A dream of coming to Manila for a job. Unfortunately, the problem is… I don’t have the means (financially) to go to Manila. I’m a scholar of DOST kaya ako nakapag-tapos ng kolehiyo. About my parents, deceased na sila when I am in high school years pa lang. I am staying in a boarding house for now… kasi wala naman kaming bahay na puede kong matuluyan dito sa bacolod. Taga Surigao po talaga kami, but lumipat lang nanay at tatay ko dito nung maliit pa lang ako, kaya wala na akong idea about sa mga relatives ko. I’m the only child dahil medyo weak ang health ng nanay ko that time and so medyo delikado na kung magbubuntis pa siya uli. I’m very desperate. I’m really needing some help. I’m willing to sacrifice everything including myself in exchange for my future career sa Maynila. I have my deadline in San Miguel Ortigas and still, I don’t know if someone could help me on my way to Manila… I really need help now… I’m willing to offer an exchange for the help you give… Whatever you ask for… I’m risking it.I spent 5 years of my life including Christmas living alone sa boarding house ko… Gusto ko rin ma-experience na magtrabaho at may makasama kahit isang relative man lang na puede gumabay sa akin… Im old enough to stand independently but I’m still young for some other things…

It also comes with the Transcript of Records and other supporting documents and images uploaded to Flicker: But overall it IS all the same… EPIC FAIL SMS and Website Scam!!!
I guess that the picture was grabbed somewhere, poor girl 
And I also guess that the supporting documents are fabricated (Anybody heard of Recto? or photoshop perhaps?)

yeah.i received the same scam sms..and i tried opening the site.and wow..the lady on the pic is so pretty.poor girl..they used her pic for doing bad things..i really hope this scam will stop.hope they’ll catch the people behind this..

I received the spam msg from Sam, but of course, who’d believe it right away? I have a friend who has friends from La Salle Bacolod, so i had her credentials checked and just got the reply that it is indeed, bogus! ULS is taking all appropriate actions, i was informed.

Hi.. got 3 sms from certain SAM MENDOZA just exactly what is posted above. I replied once and asked her, “scam?” and this is what she said. (Name: Sam Mendoza Birthdate: Feb. 15, 1989 Height: 5’6″ Complexion: Fair Hair: Long and straight Other: Joined some provincial pageants for allowance.) and another sms followed and it says, “Ahmm.. Sam Mendoza po name ko , 21 yo girl, from Mandalagan, Bacolod City. Graduate po ng BS Information Management (DOST Scholarship). Living alone sa isang boarding haus po d2 sa Purok Sambag. 5’6″, and hardworking province girl po. May pic po ako sa w w w.negros.tk -Nagtetext lng po ako ng random numbers starting with 09178 and really hoping na may makita man lng ako kht maliit na 2long para makaluwas ng mynila. Wala po akong idea kung babae po o lalaki tinitext ko.. But im really willing to give any favorable exchange in ur part para sa tulong na makapunta sa mynila.. Un lng po sana.. – sam”
That Sam Mendoza must be a freak,i received the same sms message this evening with the same txt. When i asked how she got my number, i got the same reply as the one above. Texter keeps pestering me if i agree on her terms. Poor girl, her tricks wouldn’t do any good
Yes, I just received the message tonight, May 27. I do not believe in such messages but just the same I wanted to find out if there really was a site na w w w.negros.tk-sam and true enough I was able to confirm my suspicion that indeed this text message is a scam. This is what I answered: “you are indeed demanding you do not receive help on a silver platter you have to work for it and earn the trust.” Poor girl whoever she is but I hope someone reads this and that she is really caught! Yah i Agree to all of u I just received the message this day but just the same I wanted to find out if there really was a site na w w w.negros.tk-sam and true enough I was able suspicion about that is a scam… who’s girl or lady that will exchange her self just to go in manila it so not believable….

I have been receiving the same messages as above since May 16 from this number – +639179782471, she texted me the message “puede po ba akong humingi ng 2long……”, then received another msg May 20th with the name birthdate, etc, then may 21 and 22 she texted again saying that she’s sam ung humihingi ng tulong makapunta ng maynila..
I ignored all the messages since I know for sure it was a scam. But to my surprise, she texted again today using a different number. +639276163257 – I asked where the hell she got my number because I have not tried researching things about her thru google – she replied the same msg as above stating she’s just texting random numbers starting with 09178 blah blah..
grabe mga scammers ngaun… makapanloko lang tlaga nag iimbak ng madaming sim cards. hehehehe…

Actually, i almost believed her pero syempre may doubt pa din ako that’s why i searched the num sa net, and i found out na hindi lang pala ako ang ginugulo nya sa text…!!

yeah, I got the same sms from sam, it was last week and last nite urgently asking for some help in exchange of her, whatever. Good when I divulged this to a friend , he told me its a big SCAM!!!!

Yesterday, I replied “Cool Scam”. The idiot started sending me multiple sms “what scam?”… as in hundreds in one hour. I didn’t reply and it stopped.
Been getting this SMS messages at all hours of day and night. When I finally texted back that the sender’s game was up, it/he/she started sending multiple messages saying: ‘Talaga?” What a sh*thead. IS there any way this number can be tracked?
This Sam person has a new number: +639166616820. Have reported matter to NTC. They’re going to take action daw.

Just also got a text message from this supposedly Sam Mendoza (cp#09172578956)last Sunday and a follow up today June 21 with the same messages as described by earlier bloggers. Have checked the site given, w w w.helpsam.tk and whoaa! a beautiful picture of a girl complete with all the supposed documents to prove her credentials.

Received same text again after 3 weeks. Its using number 63-9172578946. From the conversation above, seems like some of you already assume this is from a girl (a poor girl at that)! For all we know, this is probably the works of some fat, sweaty, smelly goons who has nothing to do during their drinking session and just sending out these scam text hoping to trick some gullible souls. This remind me of some news report before about PHONE S*X sites which was raided by the police. Caught in the act were some fat and ugly women. Imagine the guys calling in and paying for phone s*x, if only they saw who they are talking to, they’ll surely have a “soft-off” (opposite of “hard-on”) hehe. Peace to you all!

And luckily, I found this blog of yours which I find very helpful. The information in this blog would surely be a big blow to those scammers. Serves them right.hehe.
Oh my God, I was almost scammed by this girl. I got a similar message from her last saturday. Although she provided a different website na. It’s w w w.bacolodgirl.tk naman. I really felt bad for her but then I again I thought to check muna her authenticity. So i contacted the university of st. la salle and was informed that she was a fake nga. I researched just this morning and stumbled upon this site. I’m sharing this info with my friends at baka may maloko pa sya. Who’s picture kaya ginagamit nya….poor girl. It’s amazing that even with all the internet info available, malakas pa din loob ng mga scammers. Tsk..tsk..
You’d think whoever is behind this would quit after being exposed as a scam some 2 years ago (I went through the entire M.O. around that time; scammer was using Marie). I guess there are some who are just that dense (or total horndogs) and fall for this crap. And that’s just sad.
“SAM O. MENDOZA” is still at large… “she” must be caught before a number of credulous men get victimized… just received the sms today… i wonder where “she” gets my number… this is the price of advance communication technology… your “day” will come… SAM… and it’s getting nearer and nearer… the NBI is just around your corner…

got it just now and i was trying to check out the authenticity of her claims in her sms….when i was asking about how she applied at smc…he mentioned the name of glen oropel of smc-bacolod. followed by a rather sarcastic text: “taga bacolod ako…yung inaplayan ko obviously, sa planta ng bacolod smc…and finorward nila ako jan sa manila because sa nature ng job ko…” which sounded rather sarcastic for someone asking for help.
tnx for the info. just got that same sms message this morning. yah she did ask me to check out her web page & she is asking money for her plane fare amounting to 3K++. in exchange she will give me 3 days of “anything I want”.

hello, just got this sms from “SAM MENDOZA”, the number used was 09166616805 and web site w w w.bacolodlady.tk. we too have company issued cellphones. for info.
i received 2 similar messages last july 30, 2010 on 6:18am and the follow up message about 10am using cell# 09172578948. most of the comments here received this same message on july 30th. maybe they were able to hack globe telecoms database

i have received similar text messages from the following cell numbers:
09166616805 and 09172578956. This started when I had my sim upgraded (as per request by the tel-co). It is horrible how our numbers get mis-used for such acts.

Not sure if it’s true pero may nagbebenta daw ng list ng postpaid numbers sa banks galing sa telco companies. Kaya makakareceive kayo ng texts from insurance agents din.

My mom was asking me to send money thru LBC this morning, ibibigay daw to a certain “Sam”. I asked sino yun? nagpapatulong daw pumunta sa manila.I read the text, and told her its a scam! Its a SAM SCAM!She’s kinda techie thou… SCAM SCAM SCAM!

For someone claiming to be a Bacolod lass, she is suspiciously too fluent in Tagalog. I plan to play with this guy and report to XXX or Imbestigador. To see if we can entrap the perpetrator.
I have received a text earlier from this “Sam”, too. I have been receiving text messages from her number 09172578957 for several months now but have always shrugged them off. Why waste time and energy on a scammer, right? Hindi lang niya alam, babae ako. There would be times when I would forget to put my phone on silent mode before sleeping and all of a sudden, my three-year-old son and I would be awakened by her text. So, I am officially fed up. When I received her text earlier, decided to call her up (para saan pa ang Globe Super Duo?) and she answered it. Surprisingly, she sounded educated. Rich, even. When I started to lecture, she hung up and turned off her phone. If she has the money to set up all these websites about her “situation” and the credit/load to text apparently countless people from the metro, surely, she’d have money to pay for a one-way plane fare, right? Tsk. Wawel Mercado, go. Please report her to Imbestigador. Kawawa naman ang mga naloloko niya. I rarely comment on things like these online pero she has to be exposed. (I have been a victim of getting scammed on eBay in the past for a 7000-peso cellphone so it has been my advocacy na mahuli ang mga online scammer).

got the same messages.. didn’t mind it at first then got this irritating message “anu? tutulungan nyu po ba ako… blah.. blah..” I got irritated so I got into the internet.. found this site.. and did some research.. I live of the internet so I can say i’m good at it.. the real web address of scammers site is h t t p://sammendoza.blogspot.com/ so it would be hard or impossible to pinpoint where exactly this person is.. The image file is named Anna.jpg so.. obviously a scam.. I looked into the URL IP.. run tests but all point to California since Google is stationed there.. i ll look into this if have any more time.. The person doing this will get what he/she deserves.. most likely he/she has seen this site.. knows how a computer and how the internet works.. grammar usage is fine.. so they’re not stupid either.. website is forwarded so they have experience.. oh.. and i think he or she works here in Manila.. i’ll find out more later.. True. Many times over the last 3 months i also received her SMS for help. Well, I almost gave in (AS A WILLING CHRISTIAN WORKER), but had to do some research by visiting DLSU Bacolod and asking if they have the person in their records. No answer so far though, until i came through your blog. SPAM! Pity her or him or THEM maybe because not one person can do that large SMS spam for quite a long time until now.

i also got a text from this sam, using the same number, and incidentally, i just had my globe post paid reactivated into a new plan. this is no coincidence. i think they are working with someone from globe coz and paying to get mobile numbers, because i also get frequent texts from chinabank and other companies offering loan packages. where else could they be getting the number? someone in globe is getting paid a lot for this.

I and 5 of my colleagues got the same message– same day, and at almost the same time.. we are also on Globe post-paid plan and sharing the same 10-digit number, sa last digit lang kami nagkakaiba. from the very start, we knew this SAM was a SCAM.. good thing my wife didn’t buy this probinsyana, i just don’t know my other office mates’ wives.. this scam will not only take your money but will possibly harm your married life..

I also received the same plea for help text message. They used this number: 09063673959 and referred me to the website w w w.helpbacolod.tk which shows the same content (personal information, TOR, credentials, etc.) as everyone here has spoken of.
It’s obviously a scam because a girl who’s able to manage graduating through college should have more options than any ordinary person. I would suspect she would be fully capable of finding any job, or at least one that would help her save enough money to get to manila.
And San Miguel never “reserves” employment slots.

Hey, I got 1 text this morning and immediately felt it was a scam but still thought that I’d take the time to check out the website nonetheless. I forgot to until I got another text message a few minutes back. The websites given to me were: 1 – w w w.HelpAGirl.tk and 2 – w w w.helpbacolod.tk
When I got the 2nd text, I checked out the sites immediately. “Her” supposedly story tugged at my heartstrings coz you see, I got the same story. Dad died before I graduated in HS, mom died a year and 3 months after (which is after I finished my 1st year in college), was also working hard for academic scholarships just to finish school, I was almost an only child since both my elder siblings had their own families and weren’t well-off too, went into bar tour modelling and such to get by. I also felt as hopeless as “she” described.
I’m happy to know that it was a scam as I first thought it was. But at the same time, I feel so bad that someone out there would try to create a story such as this just to coax people into giving them money. They obviously don’t know nor care about people with such stories as well as people who work hard to earn their keep & would care enough to help others in need.
Makes me sick.

Funny! I received similar text messages last month. At first, I provided some advices to her, in 2 text messages, thinking that what if it was true. But I did not stop thinking that this might be a scam. To protect myself, I did not mention my name, gender and other personal information. After 3 days approximately, I received another text. just got my new globe line and I received the same message by this Sam Mendoza. Read most of the comments here and it seems its coming from people who just got a globe postpaid. Must be someone working or has information about people buying new post paid plans from globe. Anyway the new cell number that this same message came from is 09274394070. A lot of scammers working in the internet and through other means. I hope they use their talents for better purposes. If not, I hope the law will catch them one of these days or not their conscience if they have any will convict them. To these scammers – natural law – what you throw out to others is what comes back to you. What you give to the world the world returns to you eventually….sleep tight I hope……

This Sam sent me about 50 sms the whole day in rapid succession at 5 minute intervals. grabe ka kulit. she is using 0917-6668516. i reported the no. to Globe and NTC already. i think she is using chika.com. she says she submitted her application for san miguel at the mansilingan plant but there is no san miguel plant in mansilingan, bacolod city. thats when i knew she was lying.

I almost bought it. But, decided to check just in case its a scam. I am glad I did. Thanks to you all, I do not have to look back a few months from now and realize I’ve been had. I wonder if anyone bothered to call San Miguel and checked with the IT department. If someone confirms there is indeed a Sam Mendoza scheduled for an interview, then perhaps that person is in cahoots with this scammer. Sadly, people like these make it difficult for real needy people to receive any help.

(maybe through divine providence) i took a look and discovered about this scam. i didnt reply to her anymore because she is requesting to send financial help via lbc. now my problem is the scammer keeps on sendng me the same original msge. may i ask you how can i get rid of these pesky sms’? it’s almost being sent 8 – 15 times every day for 2 wks now. do you advice that i change my cp#? but if i do, will there be assurance that scammer will not be able to randomly pick my number again? please advice.many thanks and more power.

I’ve been getting the same SMS, sometimes as many as 6 times in a day. Ang website naman na naka-indicate sa SMS niya is .www.guideme.tk. I have gotten the SMS from the following numbers: 0917 480 56 88 and 0927 666 85 16
I’ve received 30 SMS in a day from this scammer from (0917 6668516). Reported it to Globe who recommended to file a complaint with NTC but what good that will do is anyone’s guess. Can’t somebody triangulate the phone signal, track him/her down and put us all out of our misery ?
I will report this Sam to NBI because i’m going nuts over her txting me every 5 minutes the whole day starting at 6am. I got about 50 sms from her today. I told her that the NBI will create a Task Force to track her down. she uses 0917-6668516. I also reported this scam to Globe and NTC just this evening.

Yah, got same msg from her mid April. After a number of msgs from her, I replied then called her because I was skeptical as to its genuineness. From her voice she seems to be young and in her mid-20s. But I could sense it was a scam since my analysis of the whole situation brought up more questions in my mind than answers. Hence, I just disregarded her. And indeed I was right for disregarding her!
This is one reason why all prepaid numbers should be registered!!

No woman in their right mind (and a well educated one at that) would be that desperate to give up everything for a measly fare to get to manila. Even transcript of records and such. s/he’s using this number 09163736762.
Got the same messages from this Sam girl. Firs set of messages i got was back in June. She was then using +63916 523 0763.
