SMS SCAM ALERT: Sam Mendoza, the new Marie Velasco

Note: This post is an awareness campaign to all readers of this blog. Beware! There is a recycled SMS spam and website spam making rounds that in the Philippines patterned after Marie Velasco, Anna Marie Velasco, Marie Bacolod scams. New name of the girl in the SMS scam and website scam is Sam Mendoza so I will tag this as the Sam Mendoza SMS SCAM.

I got a comment from a reader (Azeto) of my SMS Scam: Marie Velasco post telling me that they received another set of sms messages that may be related to this scam. To the benefit of the new readers this Marie Velasco SMS Scam was making rounds in the Philippines SMS since 2009. The “poor girl” is asking a would-be victim to send her some money (or electronic cellphone load) so that she can go to Manila and work. In exchange for the money, the “poor girl” who do “anything”. I leave it to your imagination on what will be the boundaries of that “anything” since the scammers seems to target the male population. I started blogging about it around August 2009, when my friends IRL and I got some random sms messages. I even got some flame comments before related to this blog posts. Read my previous posts

Going back to the new scam, I got curious so I investigated further. And wow! I will quote the site:

I’m just a simple lady… with simple dream. A dream of coming to Manila for a job. Unfortunately, the problem is… I don’t have the means (financially) to go to Manila. I’m a scholar of DOST kaya ako nakapag-tapos ng kolehiyo. About my parents, deceased na sila when I am in high school years pa lang. I am staying in a boarding house for now… kasi wala naman kaming bahay na puede kong matuluyan dito sa bacolod. Taga Surigao po talaga kami, but lumipat lang nanay at tatay ko dito nung maliit pa lang ako, kaya wala na akong idea about sa mga relatives ko. I’m the only child dahil medyo weak ang health ng nanay ko that time and so medyo delikado na kung magbubuntis pa siya uli. I’m very desperate. I’m really needing some help. I’m willing to sacrifice everything including myself in exchange for my future career sa Maynila. I have my deadline in San Miguel Ortigas and still, I don’t know if someone could help me on my way to Manila… I really need help now… I’m willing to offer an exchange for the help you give… Whatever you ask for… I’m risking it.

I spent 5 years of my life including Christmas living alone sa boarding house ko… Gusto ko rin ma-experience na magtrabaho at may makasama kahit isang relative man lang na puede gumabay sa akin… Im old enough to stand independently but I’m still young for some other things…

I don’t have any options but to offer myself… I’m decided… I better lose it for good purpose… Hindi ko alam kung kailan ako gigising isang umaga na may handa ng tumulong sa ‘kin makapunta ng Maynila… I really need a new life…”

Sounds familiar???

Yup! It IS the same old and recycled Anna Marie Velasco Crying for help SMS Scam. With a new pretty pic to match the new name (Sam Mendoza, Sam O. Mendoza, Sam Ortiz Mendoza) ! It also comes with the Transcript of Records and other supporting documents and images uploaded to Flicker: But overall it IS all the same… EPIC FAIL SMS and Website Scam!!!

I guess that the picture was grabbed somewhere, poor girl 🙁
And I also guess that the supporting documents are fabricated (Anybody heard of Recto? or photoshop perhaps?) 🙂

  1. Hi. I received a text from sam yesterday. SAM’s new accomplice site is w w thank you for the post.

  2. this is simply unbelievable. not another social engineering trick. scam alerts such as this should reach a lot of people. awareness is important nowadays. we have software to protect our computers. but how about our caring hearts?

    1. @pseudo barefoot runner
LOL @ the caring hearts comment :p

Seriously, this Sam Mendoza is really persistent. And a lot of readers are leaving comments even if the post to share their experience (and new scam accomplice sites too)

  3. got the same messages.. didn’t mind it at first then got this irritating message “anu? tutulungan nyu po ba ako… blah.. blah..” I got irritated so I got into the internet.. found this site.. and did some research.. I live of the internet so I can say i’m good at it.. the real web address of scammers site is h t t p:// so it would be hard or impossible to pinpoint where exactly this person is.. The image file is named Anna.jpg so.. obviously a scam.. I looked into the URL IP.. run tests but all point to California since Google is stationed there.. i ll look into this if have any more time.. The person doing this will get what he/she deserves.. most likely he/she has seen this site.. knows how a computer and how the internet works.. grammar usage is fine.. so they’re not stupid either.. website is forwarded so they have experience.. oh.. and i think he or she works here in Manila.. i’ll find out more later.. PEACE!

  4. i just got the same message just this week as soon as my new globe plan was activated. exactly the same message, with the name SAM MENDOZA. and she said she is from bacolod. asking me to see her photos thru her website, w w how come she has a website? this serves as a big warning to all!!! hope she gets caught very soon!!!

  5. OMG.whoever is behind this scam is so persistent.. i kept gettting the messages late into the night…damn!

  6. @Randz
i also received the sms from her/him. bad thing is she/he sends them in the wee hours or very early in the morning, as in 4am!

  7. @Randz

    Randz :
    just got a SMS from 09273228017 from Sam 21yo from Bacolod. w w same-o same-o.

i’ve been receiving the text message from this exact same number. can we report this guy to the network?

  8. True. Many times over the last 3 months i also received her SMS for help. Well, I almost gave in (AS A WILLING CHRISTIAN WORKER), but had to do some research by visiting DLSU Bacolod and asking if they have the person in their records. No answer so far though, until i came through your blog. SPAM! Pity her or him or THEM maybe because not one person can do that large SMS spam for quite a long time until now.

  9. i got same just yesterday 09052208857 thats the number i receive same content tnx for info thats a close call

  10. I got this SMS yesterday from 09052208857. I know this is a scam and Im now trying to find way how i can report this bago pa siya makapanloko ng tao. Its really impossble that smart girl will offer her self para lang makapunta manila. hay… kawawa naman yung may ari nung picture na ginamit nila.

  11. her new phone no. is +639052208857
    still using “”
Said she’s from SURIGAO, then BACOLOD, then why could she possess such good tagalog.

I was planning really to help “her” for Christian reasons. Thanks I looked up this blog.

  12. Gosh, I almost believed her I have just received a message from her again after two weeks using this cp # +639052208857.

  13. I constantly received SMS messages from Sam Mendoza asking for help. Her number is +6309052208857. It’s about time to expose the drama of this crazy lady (if she’s a lady).

  14. Received this scam text message from cp# +639052208857…w w And this is the exact text message they sent me….” Pued po b akong humingi ng 2long sa inyo? I’m Sam, 21yo GIRL and freshgrad po from BACOLOD CITY. Im WILLING to take the risks ng kpalit na hhngin nio. Un nlng tlga pgasa ko na mkluwas kgd pra mhbol deadline ko po.. My OIC & supporting docs po ako sa w w “….

  15. i also got a text from this sam, using the same number, and incidentally, i just had my globe post paid reactivated into a new plan. this is no coincidence. i think they are working with someone from globe coz and paying to get mobile numbers, because i also get frequent texts from chinabank and other companies offering loan packages. where else could they be getting the number? someone in globe is getting paid a lot for this.

  16. Hi, My partner just received a similar a few minutes ago and that’ pretty much how I got here. The new website link mentioned on the SMS is

Since you’ve done a very good job in blogging about this scam, I would also like to ask for permission to share your link/repost your article on my blog, as well as on Faceboook and Twitter. Just email me if this is ok. Thank you so much for alerting people about this scam. As much as there are people out there who are willing to help others succeed, unfortunately, there are many people out there who shamelessly take advantage of this act of kindness. So again, thank you. =)

  17. I received this text message and its a good thing that i checked this site immediately. Anyway, this Sam Mendoza is stating that she is a DOST scholar, unfornately her name is not in the list of DOST scholars..

she is using this new website: w w

  18. This girl is still existing. She texted me i think last night asking for help.. Too bad for her, Hindi Ko madali maloko. One thing I recognized that the views on the flicker is already at the thousands of numbers. So, kinda suspicious. No, really suspicious! Heheheheh.

  19. Got the same message also thru SMS from 09052208857, naturally a pre paid number and a link at w w

  20. @louie castro
same here, lycan. I and 5 of my colleagues got the same message– same day, and at almost the same time.. we are also on Globe post-paid plan and sharing the same 10-digit number, sa last digit lang kami nagkakaiba. from the very start, we knew this SAM was a SCAM.. good thing my wife didn’t buy this probinsyana, i just don’t know my other office mates’ wives.. this scam will not only take your money but will possibly harm your married life..

  21. i believe inside job nga.. see, I’m also postpaid. I’m also a girl with BOY’S name!!!! has globe done anything yet?

  22. I also received the same plea for help text message. They used this number: 09063673959 and referred me to the website w w which shows the same content (personal information, TOR, credentials, etc.) as everyone here has spoken of.

It’s obviously a scam because a girl who’s able to manage graduating through college should have more options than any ordinary person. I would suspect she would be fully capable of finding any job, or at least one that would help her save enough money to get to manila.

And San Miguel never “reserves” employment slots.

  23. got the same texts for months now. Latest was tonight, from 09172599870 and with w w as reference site. Post paid din phone ko with my husband as registered owner. How much do you think unscropulous globe employees get by selling their database to insurance companies, banks and worse, to scammers like sam m? Sad, really.

  24. i have been receiving text messages from this sam (4x na but i never texted back). the 2nd and 3rd text msg are just follow ups asking if i can help her. the 4th text msg was the same as the first one. the site she is using is

i am not sure what happened to those of you who texted her back but i do not know how she got my number and why the hell she is not stopping from texting eventhough there are no replies.

  26. that’s really weird, globe postpaid user din ako. and i received that last saturday. mukang may sabit globe dito.. but i do not blame globe since i post my number to other sites in selling some of my items.

sa other network kaya may nareceive na sila?

here is the number used. 09063673659

  27. Hey, I got 1 text this morning and immediately felt it was a scam but still thought that I’d take the time to check out the website nonetheless. I forgot to until I got another text message a few minutes back. The websites given to me were: 1 – w w and 2 – w w

When I got the 2nd text, I checked out the sites immediately. “Her” supposedly story tugged at my heartstrings coz you see, I got the same story. Dad died before I graduated in HS, mom died a year and 3 months after (which is after I finished my 1st year in college), was also working hard for academic scholarships just to finish school, I was almost an only child since both my elder siblings had their own families and weren’t well-off too, went into bar tour modelling and such to get by. I also felt as hopeless as “she” described.

I’m happy to know that it was a scam as I first thought it was. But at the same time, I feel so bad that someone out there would try to create a story such as this just to coax people into giving them money. They obviously don’t know nor care about people with such stories as well as people who work hard to earn their keep & would care enough to help others in need.

    Makes me sick.

The number I got it from was +639172599870.

    What comes around goes around.

  28. Me too! I got the first message last Oct 23 then it was followed the next day. her number is 09063673959. The website that she is referring to is Then I got another message today with a different number which is 09172578957.

  29. Also this one hxxp://

And makulit ha, may follow up pa although i never replied. Thanks to the internet!

  30. Got the same sms since yesterday. I replied asking her not to message me again but got yet another default response about the airfare or ship. Im glad i saw this site. Globe must be aware of this since postpaid users are targetted.

    Here’s the number and site:
    +63 906 201 8063
    w w

  31. been receiving this text also for months now.. This is really funny… I hate these people… ignore them…

  32. Funny! I received similar text messages last month. At first, I provided some advices to her, in 2 text messages, thinking that what if it was true. But I did not stop thinking that this might be a scam. To protect myself, I did not mention my name, gender and other personal information. After 3 days approximately, I received another text. Unlike the above standard text, I received a message which is more personal one. He/she was very persistent asking me to help him/her. I ignored her messages from then.

  33. im also a globe postpaid user, been receiving her text messages for more than a month. At first i ignored her messages. All her text messages seems already defaulted. But when i tried to replied that we gonna send her a money and what means we gonna send it, she replied via western union or LBC because its just one way ride from her boarding house. I asked her address, she replied with this:

    Sam O. Mendoza
Address: Purok Sambag, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City 6100

I texted her that we already sent the money via western union, then she replied asking the transaction number, oh men Im just kidding!! wahaah.

I think the name of the person is real, she said that she will going to present an ID to claim. Is she violated any law for asking help like this? I think none =)

  34. just got my new globe line and I received the same message by this Sam Mendoza. Read most of the comments here and it seems its coming from people who just got a globe postpaid. Must be someone working or has information about people buying new post paid plans from globe. Anyway the new cell number that this same message came from is 09274394070. A lot of scammers working in the internet and through other means. I hope they use their talents for better purposes. If not, I hope the law will catch them one of these days or not their conscience if they have any will convict them. To these scammers – natural law – what you throw out to others is what comes back to you. What you give to the world the world returns to you eventually….sleep tight I hope……

  35. thanks for sharing this.

I have gotten messages from this person too and found it crazy so i replied with an equally crazy response… i told her to swim all the way from where she is to here… if she can do that, I will do everything in my power to land her a job.

    1. @Dennis Lagindo
Thanks for the visit and the comment! I’ll try my best to share awareness more for sam/marie scams this 2011 🙂

  36. i rcvd the same message yesterday & today from the same number as Jojo. I just told her that i will take care of her once she is in Manila until she is employed. seer

  37. hi, just received 2 msgs from dis scammer, using 0906.3129170. postpaid user din ako, lately lang. dami nagpost na globe postpaid subs ah, at first naisip ko random o nanghuhula lng ung sender pero after reading different posts coincidence lng kaya na kramihan sa tinetex nia e newly activated na globe postpaid. haaay nakakairita makareceive ng mga ganung msgs. naglagay p ng website jeez

    1. Yes .. its funny how she gets all the new numbers right ? sometimes i think Globe sells our numbers – LEADS kasi yon eh so they can make money out of it – also I receive a lot of credit card offers / news items / loan offers!! Jeeezzzzzzz talaga Makes you think … GLOBE??????? C;mon!!!

  38. Hi! Received the same message today. Her/His new website is The number she/he uses right now is +639167251488

I am also a postpaid subscriber. However, my line is old already. I’ve received this in the past. Thankfully, I just ignored it. Thanks for this site for confirming my doubts. 😉
