Quezon Del Sur Update

Still YES for Quezon Del Sur for me. As discussed in my previous post I menardconnected and interviewed more people to get fresh, up-to-date and insider information on this topic.

Facts first: The plebiscite on Saturday, December 13, 2008 will push thru, as confirmed by Ka Erin’s comment on his blog. But since the SC have given a temporary restraining order (TRO) so the results will not be proclaimed.

And now my analysis and my opinion. First for the Anti or the NO supporters. For the incumbent governor and previous author of the bill, its understandable that he will oppose the move. Why? Power, influence and resources will be divided into two and he will just get half of the pie (forget about the IRA and other discussions of the financials/technicalities of this resource, think of it as simple math ok?). I will blog it in Filipino to express my views more eloquently: Sino ba namang Hari ang papayag na mahati ang kaharian nya??? Tapos yung magiging hari sa Quezon Del Sur eh galing sa kabilang kampo? The answer to my 1 million peso question: Why do some politician(s) (especially from the 4th district) aggressively supports the NO move? The answer is simple, they are allied with the incumbent governor. Allies help one another. Even in Computer Games and MMORPG they do that. For the Alliance!!!

For the Pro or the YES proponents. Aside from the points raised in my previous post (accessibility, better management, equal distribution of resources for the south) here are some additional tidbits I have: The people of the 3rd and 4th district (as well as its leadership/ruling clans) will be the beneficiary. For the People! Period. Honestly, I haven’t got inputs from the folks from the 1st and 2nd districts, but I heard that one party have taken a neutral stance, while another party seems to be nurturing a NO vote, but since they are traditionally not aligned (in filipino, “tradisyonal na kalaban sa pulitika”) with the incumbent governor they opted to keep a low profile on this issue.

But here’s the catch: If this is really GOOD for the 3rd and 4th district, bakit matunog pa rin ang NO sa mga taga timog Quezon? Well… this will boil down to… surprise?…traditional politics. Yes. Its seems this is a battle of the Gov and his allies versus the kingpins of the South. Here are some examples of the arguments from the common tao (on why they are inclined to vote for NO):

1. Si Gov meron 100 scholars sa XXX university, pag nahati na quezon pano na yung mga scholars???

2. Pano na yung pramis ni Gov na YYY Million project sa ZZZ town/barrio? pag nahati na quezon wala na yun di ba???

Its sad that the big issues are overlooked by this kind of traditional politics. In the end, its seems that the Del Sur people will be on the losing side of the battle in the event of either a YES or NO victory. Why?
1. If YES wins, promised projects/benefits will _NOT_ be given.
2. If NO wins, promised projects/benefits will be given. But do you think the current incumbent governor will be more “mapagbigay” to the south? I don’t think so.

So my take here. Still YES for me. YES to Quezon Del Sur. Laban na lang kung laban. Sabi ko na lang nga e pag lumaban ka me 50% chances ka manalo (yung other 50% talo ka). Kapag nde ka lumaban, talo ka na 100% sigurado yun.

Yes to Quezon del Sur and Quezon del Norte

YES. I support the move to split the Quezon Province into two: Quezon del Norte and Quezon del Sur. I read the facts and opinions expressed by both camps (and did some personal interview/chat with some people I know), and I agree more to the points raised by the pro split group.

I hail from the 4th district (Lopez, Quezon), and I know that this discussion was started way back in the 1990’s (possibly the 80’s) and personally for me this is really a done deal (discussions/hearings/etc) already. I am just a little bit surprised at the recent turn of events in the local scene (political figures switching stances, oh whatsnew 😀 ) but I firmly believe that is timely that the southern Quezon be given a chance to stand on its own. This will enable better accessibility and better management for the 3rd and 4th districts (as well as a better distribution of projects).

Republic Act No. 9495 (RA9495), states that Quezon Del Sur will be composed of  the towns of Agdangan, Buenavista, Catanauan, General Luna, Macalelon, Mulanay, Padre Burgos, Pitogo, San Andres, San Francisco, San Narciso, Unisan, Alabat, Atimonan, Calauag, Guinayangan, Gumaca, Lopez, Perez, Plaridel, Quezon and Tagkawayan.

Quezon Del Norte will be composed of cities of Lucena and Tayabas, and the towns of Burdeos, General Nakar, Infanta, Jomalig, Lucban, Mauban, Pagbilao, Panukulan, Patnanungan, Polilio, Real, Sampaloc, Candelaria, Dolores, San Antonio and Sariaya.

The last information I got was the plebiscite will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2008. I will try to get more up to date and insider info tomorrow and give updates to this blog

Pacquiao wins over Dela Hoya

Just want to write my hurray and grats greetz to Pacquiao. I watched the fight via free TV (CH7) but already knew the outcome because of the rival station (CH2) flashed the results in TV :-p . I also confirmed the outcome via searching the internet. I commend Manny and the rest of Team Pacquiao for a job well done. Pacman and Roach were indeed very prepared for the fight. I really liked Manny’s style of boxing that night: Hindi nanggigil at maganda ang footwork. I’m not a boxing expert but the way I see it, Golden Boy either did not prepare well for the fight or is really too old to fight. But I admire both fighters professionalism.

Again congrats to Manny Pacquiao! Mabuhay ka!

TROJ_DROP.BP – A Firefox Malware

I stumbled upon a Computerworld article and it reported that Bitdefender guys got hold of a malicious infostealer that poses as a Firefox plugin. Bitdefender detects it as Trojan.PWS.ChromeInject.A (Trend Micro as TROJ_DROP.BP). Complete details can be found here

In my previous blogs, I usually do not care to post about these new antimalware/antivirus stuffs but what got me interested is this: I recently installed Firefox on several of my PCs to see how Menardconnect.com will look like using different browsers (honestly before I was a pure IE7 kid, but I recently said my goodbye to those all MS-days of mine), and its very intriguing to know that now even Firefox have its own share of this malware menace. I believe this just highlights some points:

1. When you gain market share you the probability of being the target for malware will be higher. So its true that Firefox is gaining on IE then 😮 ??? So Apple better watch out 🙂

2. Where there is money, bad guys will go (there) to get milk and honey (hehe my rhyme sucks). But seriously look at the sites that the trojan targets (see Computerworld article) and you will get my point better.

I’ll try to write more AV/techie stuffs on this blog next time.

Eraserheads Reunion Concert CD Review

I finally got hold of the Eraserheads Reunion Concert CD today. Raven and I bought it from Odyssey for PHP 305. The cd is manufactured and distributed by Sony BMG. I’m listening to the CD as I write this blog entry and I’m sweetly reliving the Reunion concert moment again 🙂

The CD quality is great!!! Definitely its not similar to previously posted videos in youtube wherein the sound quality is kinda basag na. It includes my personal favorites: Sembreak, Alapaap, Hey Jay, Kamasupra, and Kaliwete. It also captures some of the funny quotes from the Band (The last 10 seconds countdown, the good night greetings of Ely after the first song, The Merry Christmas greets before the Fruitcake etc). I am just wondering why it did not capture the “Group Hug” chants of the crowd 🙂

Edit: Between tracks 9 and 10, you hear the group hug chants.

cd cover part 2
I may be out of the loop in the music industry nowadays but its worthy to note that inside the CD case is a small leaflet that contains the download instructions for videos, mp3 and ringback tones for mobile phones. Each download ranges from PHP15 to PHP50 (wow nice biz for SonyBMG and the telcos :-p). It also contains the YouTube/SonyBMG PH URL (which I will try to visit later tonight)

To all the Eraserheads fans out there, grab your copy now (in case you haven’t yet). 300+ bucks for 15 songs, its worth it.

And whats in it for me and Raven? Well… we are waiting for the Part 2.
